1. Dr. Soh, you’re an accomplished woman who wears many hats: a doctor, philanthropist, business owner, and a mother of four. How do you balance it all?

It takes a lot of time and commitment to juggle both business and family. You learn to compartmentalize your time. When I’m at work, I put in a hundred percent effort on treating my patients and when I’m home, my children have my full attention. Whether its work or family, I am fully present. It’s not easy I must say. I hardly have time for myself, but I enjoy every minute spent on people and things that matter to me the most.

2. Your dedication extends beyond the clinic. What other passion brings you joy?

I believe that we must live our lives to the fullest. I love collecting wine, jewelry, art, piano, and items that bring great memories and values. I enjoy scuba diving. I also love cooking. Cooking for my four lovely children especially. There is something special about mealtime that brings the family together. We’ve created a lot of memories at the dining table.

Music, memories that you carry for a lifetime

“Music that ties all these memories together. Music created not on just any piano but a Steinway.” Dr. Karen Soh

3. What is a memorable experience you have from your collection?

I’ve always loved playing the piano. My mother-in-law gifted me a grand piano when my husband and I got married. Over the years, she would come often to play on the piano, a great bonding time for all of us. It’s our shared memories at the piano that I hold dear to my heart.

Music is truly a wonderful thing. It is timeless and holds so much sentimental value. My Steinway & Sons Crown Jewel grand piano, made of black poisonwood tree, is not only an exotic jewel in the eyes of the viewer, but also a symbol of all the shared memories in the heart of the bearer.

4. What speaks to you the most about your Steinway piano?

From an aesthetic point of view, it is a piece of art. Like all collectable items, you collect them because you see the value. But unlike other collectable items, pianos are extra special.

It’s an art AND an instrument. One of the ways I relax after a long day, is to play the piano with my youngest son. It is also a special moment you can enjoy with others. I particularly enjoy winding down to some spectacular performances from the Spirio playback system. Sometimes I can’t believe that such beautiful music can come out from this remarkable autoplay piano.
