Works for piano from mainly Greek Composers

Steinway Gallery Singapore presents Musical Box by Greek Pianist Maria Papapetropoulou.

 

Μaria Papapetropoulou was born in Athens, Greece. She studied piano under the instruction of Mesdames  Popi and Natalia Michailidou at the “Athenaeum” Conservatory as well as at the Skalkotas Conservatory in Athens. She obtained her Diploma with honors (unanimous jury decision) further earning the first prize. She continued her studies in France under the coaching of Madame Francoise Tina at the École Normale de Musique de Paris “Alfred Cortot” and at the Conservatoire National d’Orléans, from where she graduated equally winning the first prize. She obtained a scholarship by The Onassis Foundation, to continue her studies at the Karlsruhe University, collaborating with Ulrich Rademacher, where she specialized in lieder accompaniment and obtained a Master of Arts diploma with “Excellent” distinction. She participated in a series of seminars and classes on piano perfection, chamber music, and lieder accompaniment, conducted by Lev Vlassenko, Gitti Pirner, Eduardo Hubert, and Bruno Canino. She has given individual (The Athens Concert Hall, 1994) and chamber music recitals in Greece, France, Germany, Italy, and Turkey. She has frequently collaborated with the Athens State Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, the Ryazan Philharmonic in Russia and the Münster Youth Orchestra in Germany, where she recorded Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major KV467. She has recorded for the Greek State Radio, in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Band of Th. Antoniou and has performed on Greek radio and television. She teaches piano, accompaniment and chamber music at the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata.

Repertoire requirements

  • Participants must present 3 contrasting selections.
  • Repertoire must include the first movement of a Sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi, or Schubert.
  • No concerti or transcriptions are allowed.
  • Participants are required to perform the exact same repertoire for further stages of the competition.
  • Auditions will be conducted in a continuous, live-recording manner. Re-takes are not allowed.

Maximum 20 minutes
