4th STEINWAY YOUTH PIANO COMPETITION 2018

 


A PRESTIGIOUS MUSICAL PLATFORM FOR YOUNG ASPIRING MUSICIANS

 

The festival is an important biennial event organized by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany, to identify, encourage, and promote young pianists in the formative stages of their careers. Various countries will concurrently be running national-level auditions to determine their representatives for the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg. Steinway Gallery Singapore is hosting the Singapore Steinway National Finals and the winner of the National Finals will proceed to the Regional Finals, where he or she will compete for a chance to represent Southeast Asia at the International Steinway Festival 2018 in Hamburg, Germany.

 

In the national competitions, local Steinway dealers will administer countrywide auditions in the following Asian countries: Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Brunei and Vietnam (Auditions for China and Japan are managed under separate auspices).
Each country will select one representative to compete in the Southeast Asia Steinway Regional Finals.

 

Contestants are also presented with the opportunity to showcase their talents across different platforms.  Steinway Gallery Singapore is hosting the Singapore Steinway National Finals and the ‘winner’ of the National Finals will be flown to the Regional Finals, where he or she will compete for a chance to represent Southeast Asia at the International Steinway Festival 2018 in Hamburg, Germany.

AGE CATEGORY

Category 1: Age 11 & Below (i.e. born on or after January 1, 2007)

Category 2: Ages 12 to 14 (i.e. born between and inclusive of January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2006)

Category 3: Ages 15 to 17 (i.e. born between and inclusive of January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2003)

Category 1: Age 11 & below (SGD $85)

Category 2: Ages 12 to 14 (SGD $120)

Category 3: Ages 15 to 17 (SGD $150)

GRAND PRIZE WINNER

Will be representing Singapore at the Southeast Asia Steinway Regional Finals to compete among 9 regional contestants for a coveted spot at the International Steinway Festival 2018 in Hamburg.

 

 

FIRST PLACE PRIZES

Each individual category winners will be chosen and each will receive a cash prize, a trophy and certificate of recognition. The prizes for each category are:

  • Category 1 SGD$400 & Trophy & Certificate of Recognition
  • Category 2 SGD$600 & Trophy & Certificate of Recognition
  • Category 3 SGD$800 & Trophy & Certificate of Recognition

COMPETITON AND AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Participants must present 3 contrasting selections totalling a maximum playing time of ‘20 minutes’.

  • Repertoire must include the first movement of a Sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi or Schubert.
  • All pertinent program details (Composer, Work, Key, Op., No., Hob., K. designations) for each movement of the work intended for performance must be listed.
  • No concerti or transcriptions are allowed.
  • Auditions will be conducted in a continuous, live-recording manner. There’ll be no re-takes allowed.
  • Participants are required to perform the exact same repertoire for further stages of the competition.
  • Category I: Ages 11 and under
  • Category II: Ages 12 – 14
  • Category III: Ages 15 – 17

The Singapore Steinway Youth Piano Competition is only opened to all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 17 and below

Age requirements apply to applicant’s age as of 18 February 2018. Applicants must reside in Singapore. Qualifying competitors must perform live with their music memorized in order to participate in the competition.
