“Sometimes a Steinway has a very strange magic— It plays better than the pianist and it is then a marvelous surprise!” – Martha Argerich, Steinway Artist

SINGAPORE, 28 March 2022 — In 1857, three years after Henry Steinway set out to “build the best piano possible”, the very first Steinway & Sons patent was granted. Since then, Steinway has been granted 125 additional patents, positioning their pianos synonymous with quality that surpasses the expectations of even the most demanding pianist. In Singapore, since the year 2011, luxury experts C. Melchers GmbH & Co. has been carrying the sole distribution rights of Steinway & Sons’ pianos. Under their appointment, Steinway Gallery Singapore, which was formerly located at Palais Renaissance has been operating at a much larger store at ION Orchard for the last 4 years.  Since January 2022, our flagship store at ION Orchard has undergone a complete makeover and is ready to reopen tomorrow, on 30th March 2022. With a wider range of Steinway & Sons’ grand and upright pianos, including its latest innovation— the Steinway SPIRIO, a high-resolution re-performance piano, along with the exquisite pianos from the Steinway Crown Jewel and Pop Collection. Also completing the Steinway Family of Pianos, are the Boston and Essex pianos, both designed by Steinway & Sons.

Steinway Gallery Singapore is the first standalone Steinway Gallery in South-East Asia. In the past 10 years, Steinway Gallery Singapore has built upon the traditions and heritage of Steinway & Sons to elevate the brand’s acceptance and standing in Singapore. Steinway Gallery Singapore has since played a substantial role in prominent events such as the Steinway No. 1 Historical Exhibition, Steinway Youth Piano Competition, Sing50 and ChildAid.

Ms. Celine Goh, General Manager of Steinway Gallery Singapore adds,

“Steinway is no longer just meant for the concert stage but is positioned with many other international lifestyle brands to complement a well-appointed lifestyle. Through making Steinway readily available to shoppers and being a key player in exciting events such as the upcoming Steinway competition, we hope to increase Steinway’s relevance and to find a place in everyone’s hearts.”

In line with the legacy of excellence and music-making, Steinway Gallery Singapore prioritizes providing a platform for young talents to showcase their craft across all music genres through organizing competitions such as the Steinway Youth Piano Competition, and performance opportunities through the Rising Stars series intended for upcoming pianists to showcase their talents. Steinway Gallery Singapore has also conferred 2 local Steinway Artists thus far including Mr. Dick Lee and Mr. Benjamin Loh, as well as Young Steinway Artists such as Wang CongYu and Mervyn Lee.

Passed down from master to apprentice, generation after generation, the craftsmanship of a Steinway ensures extraordinary attention to detail and unparalleled standards. Every piano consists of over 12,000 parts and is painstakingly hand-made, taking well over a year to complete. Decades of experience go into their making, by artisans who are devoted to humanizing a piano, striving for, and achieving continuous innovation and improvement. The impeccable design of the Steinway gives one little to wonder as to why it has always been the choice of great pianists including Steinway Artist Yuja Wang, Martha Argerich who is deemed one of the greatest pianists of the late 20th  century, and renowned pianists like Sergei Rachmaninov and Billy Joel.

The store’s façade is uniquely designed to resemble the shape of the brand’s lyra and its curvature, with a Steinway Grand displayed elegantly at the storefront.

Additionally, with its ability to host up to 80 people, the store will further serve as a melting pot that allows musicians and audiences to connect. Valued customers may also unwind at the SPIRIO lounge, while listening to captivating pieces being played on the SPIRIO.

We look forward to having you at our newly revamped ION Orchard store, to share in the joys a Steinway piano can bring.
