Professional class: AUDITION RESULTS 

Steinway Gallery Singapore is proud to present the following young talents who have successfully advanced to the Semi-Finals of the 6th Steinway Youth Piano Competition that will take place on 28th May 2022. The Grand Prize winner in the Professional Class will represent Singapore at the Southeast Asia Steinway Regional Finals to compete among 8 regional contestants for a coveted spot at the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg, Germany.

Our Honorable Judges

Mr Loo Bang Hean

Mr Loo Bang Hean is an accomplished Malaysian concert pianist, featured as a concerto soloist with various orchestras, including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. An adjunct lecturer at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur, he is a regular presenter for the ABRSM examination board and has been invited to adjudicate competitions, conduct seminars and masterclasses across Asia. This is his second time adjudicating for the SYPC.

Ms Mary Anne Espina

Known for her excellence in chamber music, Mary Anne is one of the most sought-after collaborating artists in the Philippines today. A two-time Aliw Awardee for the Best Instrumental Category, Mary Anne has been featured in the Filipino Artists Series at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and has performed as a soloist of the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, FILHARMONIKA, and the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

Dr Nopanand Chanorathaikul

Dr. Nopanand is a distinguished classical pianist from Thailand and a guest soloist with both the Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. An inspiring and highly sought-after educator, Dr. Nopanand has been regularly invited to provide teachers’ workshops and serve on the adjudicator panel of national and ASEAN international piano competitions. Dr. Nopanand was appointed an Assistant Professor at the College of Music, Mahidol University where she served as a full-time faculty member for more than a decade.

Competition Requirements

Categories

  • Category 1 – Ages 11 and below (i.e. born on or after January 1, 2011)
  • Category 2 – Ages 12 to 14 (i.e. born between and inclusive of January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2010)
  • Category 3 – Ages 15 to 17 (i.e. born between and inclusive of January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2007)

Repertoire requirements

  • Participants must present 3 contrasting selections.
  • Repertoire must include the first movement of a Sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi, or Schubert.
  • No concerti or transcriptions are allowed.
  • Participants are required to perform the exact same repertoire for further stages of the competition.
  • Auditions will be conducted in a continuous, live-recording manner. Re-takes are not allowed.

Maximum 20 minutes
