Singapore, 21 OCTOBER 2019– The Limited Edition Black Diamond Piano, specially designed for Steinway & Sons by esteemed furniture designer Dakota Jackson and Steinway virtuoso Lang Lang, was launched in Singapore on 17 October 2019 at ION Sky.

The gala dinner was opened by Celine Goh, General Manager of Steinway Gallery Singapore. She unveiled the Black Diamond piano with Wei Wei, President of Steinway Asia Pacific. The event was also graced by Wendy Shen, District Sales Manager of Steinway Asia Pacific.

By exclusive invitation only and attended by society figures and Steinway owners, the event was an opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship of the Black Diamond Piano. Emmy-nominated classical Steinway Artists Anderson & Roe were on hand to introduce the highly exclusive Black Diamond to the guests. Only eight Model D concert grand pianos and 88 Model B classic grand pianos have been crafted. The two Steinway Black Diamond pianos (one black and one Macassar ebony) in Singapore were pre-sold ahead of their official launch. The only remaining Black Diamond Model D concert grand piano in the world has now been allocated for sale in Singapore.

The piano duo also enthralled guests with adrenalised renditions of popular favourites Billie Jean, Libertangoand What a Wonderful World. They showcased the revolutionary SPIRIO | r technology, which offers exclusive high-resolution recording and playback for professional and amateur pianists. The other performers of the night included Ms Goh, who provided a moving rendition of “New Endless Love” (新不了情), and the pint-sized trio of No Front Teeth, who regaled guests.

About Steinway Gallery Singapore

Much more than a state-of-the-art retail and performance space, the Steinway Gallery at ION Orchard – the “centre of gravity” in Singapore’s retail scene – houses a selection of grand and upright pianos from Steinway & Sons including its latest innovation, the Steinway SPIRIO, a high resolution re-performance piano, as well as exquisite pianos from the Steinway Crown Jewel Collection. Completing the Steinway Family of Pianos are the Boston and Essex pianos that are designed by Steinway & Sons.

The Gallery’s elegant facade evokes a piano’s finish and curvature, with a beautiful Steinway Grand piano taking pride of place at the storefront, offering shoppers and passers-by a chance to experience playing on one of the “finest pianos in the world”. Inside, a full-sized performance stage allows the Gallery to double up as an intimate recital hall while a rear annex houses a rehearsal studio with two Steinway Grands – showcasing Steinway’s commitment to celebrating arts and culture.
