A New Evolution in Touch, Tone, and Expressive Control
Singapore, 19 January 2026 — Steinway & Sons today announced the introduction of organic Weickert Special felt hammers for the Steinway-designed Boston Grand Piano, marking a new evolution in the instrument’s expressive capabilities while remaining faithful to Steinway’s enduring design philosophy.
Traditionally crafted and naturally resilient, Weickert Special felt is known for its organic structure and tonal purity. In the Boston Grand, this material enhances elasticity and responsiveness, allowing the hammer to react more naturally to a pianist’s touch. Each hammer is built on a hornbeam wood molding, providing stability, precision, and long-term consistency.
This development refines the playing experience rather than redefining the instrument itself. The Steinway-designed Boston Grand retains its hallmark design elements — including wide-tail construction, carefully engineered action geometry, and structural integrity — while the introduction of organic Weickert Special felt hammers brings greater warmth, clarity, and a more singing sustain across the dynamic range.
“With organic Weickert Special felt, the hammer responds with greater sensitivity and nuance,” said Celine Goh, General Manager, Steinway Gallery Singapore. “The result is an instrument that feels more alive under the fingers — capable of revealing subtle tonal color while maintaining clarity and control.”
The enhanced responsiveness supports a wide range of musical settings, from private homes and teaching studios to institutional and performance environments. By elevating touch and tone through material choice, the Boston Grand draws pianists closer to the expressive world shaped by Steinway design.
The Steinway-designed Boston Grand with organic Weickert Special felt hammers is now available for viewing and private trial at Steinway Gallery Singapore.
